The EOS R50 V is a new addition to the EOS V series, designed specifically for social media creators with a core focus on video production. It features a flat, linear body optimized for videography, incorporating Cinema EOS-inspired Custom Picture color presets and the professional XF-AVC S / XF-HEVC S file systems. It supports 10-bit 6K oversampled 4K 30p video without cropping, along with Canon Log 3. To meet modern content demands, the R50 V also includes a dedicated live streaming button and enhanced vertical shooting capabilities. Equipped with Dual Pixel CMOS AF II and a "Registered Person Priority" function, it ensures fast and precise autofocus for both video and photos. Combining Cinema EOS imaging technology with the ease of use of the EOS R system, the lightweight EOS R50 V is the ideal tool for creators looking to expand their creative reach.
6K Oversampled 4K UHD 30p in 10-bit
Using the same algorithm as Cinema EOS cameras, the EOS R50 V delivers uncropped 4K UHD 25p/30p video oversampled from 6K RGB data, resulting in minimal moiré, chromatic aberration, and noise for superior image quality.
For fast-moving subjects, it also supports cropped 4K 60p recording for smoother motion capture.
With a standard ISO of 12800 (expandable to ISO 25600) in video mode, the R50 V enables low-light shooting in nighttime or dim environments using available light—preserving ambient atmosphere without additional lighting.
Cinema EOS-Grade Video Features
In addition to existing Photo Styles and Creative Filters, the EOS R50 V introduces Custom Picture (CP) presets derived from Cinema EOS, offering five presets—Canon 709, Canon Log 3, PQ, HLG, and BT.709 Standard—along with 15 user-customizable settings. This allows creators to select optimal gamma and color space settings, such as BT.709-based or HDR configurations, for ready-to-use SOOC (Straight Out Of Camera) footage and seamless integration with Cinema EOS workflows.
Canon Log 3 provides up to 13+ stops of dynamic range, ideal for capturing richly graded video with wide tonal expression.
The camera also introduces professional-grade codecs aligned with Cinema EOS, the EOS R1, and EOS R5 Mark II:
- XF-HEVC S YCC422 10-bit
- XF-HEVC S YCC420 10-bit
- XF-AVC S YCC422 10-bit
- XF-AVC S YCC420 8-bit
Shared specifications with Cinema EOS simplify post-production, allowing unified workflows across hybrid EOS and Cinema EOS shoots.
Streamlined Color Control
A dedicated COLOR button provides quick access to three color modes: Photo Style, Creative Filter, or Custom Picture. The camera includes 14 Creative Filters, such as StoryTeal & Orange and AccentRed, enabling intuitive creative control with real-time monitoring—eliminating the need for post-production color grading.
When using Custom Picture, creators can apply custom LUTs (Look-Up Tables) during shooting, playback, and even over HDMI output via Look File support.
Full Vertical Video Support
The EOS R50 V is built for vertical content with an auto-rotating Quick Control screen and shooting info display, plus a vertically aligned tripod mount. This allows seamless shooting of smartphone-optimized vertical video without cropping or post-rotation.
Fast and Accurate Autofocus
The Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system covers 100% of the frame with 651 AF zones, ensuring reliable autofocus for both photos and videos.
Advanced Subject Recognition & Tracking
The new Registered Person Priority function allows users to pre-register up to 10 individuals. During shooting, the camera will prioritize detected registered subjects, even when multiple people are in the frame.
Eye Detection AF now supports right or left eye priority, ideal for close-up shots of moving subjects.
Animal detection has been expanded to include horses (racehorses, zebras, ponies), while vehicle detection adds support for aircraft (jets, helicopters).
Cinematic Focus Control
Touch AF enables smooth focus transitions with a single tap, while Movie Servo AF allows users to customize tracking speed for natural, cinematic focus pulls.
Focus Breathing Correction helps minimize shifts in angle of view when adjusting focus distance, ensuring consistent framing for more professional video output.
EOS VR System Support
The EOS R50 V is fully compatible with the Canon EOS VR system, including the RF-S 3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE and RF-S 7.8mm F4 STM DUAL lenses, enabling easy capture of 3D VR content up to 144° or spatial video.
This lightweight, video-focused camera allows creators to explore immersive content without heavy gear or complex setups—ideal for virtual tours, interactive educational content, and next-generation creative projects.
